Had an unprompted full library resync a couple nights ago that reordered my entire Recently Added (on mobile) alphabetically again. I use Recently Added frequently to listen to newly added albums and was wondering if Astiga could order this list by the Date Created or Date Modified metadata in the target storage, rather than by how recently Astiga read in the info. This would (ideally) prevent it from making the Recently Added tab less useful in the event of a full resync.

This a feature parity request for the browser. On Android, viewing albums by decade shows albums in alphabetical order by year (for example, 2020s displays A-Z 2024 first, followed by A-Z 2023, A-Z 2022, etc). I want the same behavior in the browser UI.

Astiga in the browser currently alphabetizes all albums across the entire decade. If I'm ever bothering to view music by decade, this is not useful to me as there's no way for me to know when exactly albums came out in that decade or relative to one another without cross referencing with google or something. I actually use this feature regularly on Android because it's an easy way to keep track of what music from the current year I'm listening to/have listened to, and at the end of the year I like to go back and see what my favorites from the year were.

Android also displays the release year next to the artist which is very nice. From what I can tell there is no way to view the specific release year of an album in the browser UI.

Hey!

I remember when the sorting option was added, the idea was that the sorting would be remembered during use. It already never really worked flawlessly, often resetting to the default alphabetic sorting. However, since the new sorting functionality is added, it doesn't work at all anymore.

So I would like to request an account-wide setting for default sort-algorithm. I find myself setting the sort back to release date continuously. Every time I open an artist page the first thing I do is change the sorting algorithm. That is 2 extra clicks each time I open an artist page. A small thing perhaps, but annoying just the same.

If it can be per page-sort (like for example being able to have artists/bands default on release date, but genres pages on alphabet) that would be the most perfect. But I'd already be happy with a general setting for each page.

Bit odd one maybe. But it's an issue I've run into.

Some subsonic apps (including Tempo) scrobble played music automatically without needing to log into Last.FM on there. It seems it grabs my Last.FM login from the Astiga server.

The thing is, I wish to scrobble trough a secondary dedicated app due to the extra features and settings. I already but a feature request in with Tempo for disabling this.

However beside of that, I don't want any app to have access my account without explicit permission. And I gave explicit permission to Astiga (and the secondary app I use, Pano Scrobbler), not Tempo. Of course I gave Tempo access to my Astiga account, but I'd like to think that shouldn't include access to third party services unrelated to playback itself (I get storage is needed for example) like Last.FM. Or at least should be disable-able.

If I simply disable scrobbling in Astiga it also stops scrobbling on PC. Which is not what I want.

Is there a way Astiga could block secondary apps from accessing my Last.FM account without permission? Or a setting to make scrobbling web-app only (as the regular Astiga apps also seems to authenticates as a third party app based on the fact it needs to token when MFA is enabled).

I get they don't get the login, but they do get access in an indirect way and you'd have to rely on the third party to use it nicely. Being able to disable it makes it so that you only have to worry about the link Astiga <-> App instead of also the link Third Party Services <-> Astiga while choosing an app. While currently that's only Last.FM as far as I know off, in further development this could theoretically lead to an unnecesary complex system of who has access to where through what, which I find unfavorable.

I know the official Astiga app has sync between phone and web-app. However this has never worked properly for me, as the web-app to phone is supposed to show a pop-up which I only gotten in the far passed and never been able to get back (there is an old topic about that). A few days ago I noticed in the Tempo app that is has the following option:

This leads me to believe that within SubSonic, there is an option to sync library. Since turning the option on doesn't work with Astiga, I'm assuming Astiga doesn't support it. Since the implementation of Astiga is buggy anyways, and only works phone to web-app to me but not the other way around, I'm thinking it might be a nice solution to implement the SubSonic implementation into Astiga. This gives increased compatibility with SubSonic apps, as well as that it may work better than the current implementation anyways.

Really happy with this update :D.

Probably a next step that's already on your agenda, but playlist editing (outside of current cue) would be a great thing too. Both editing playlist in the playlist page, and having an option to add to playlist from others' (I feel like I mentioned it before but I can't find the tread so quickly, so appologies if it's double).

On another note, I was wondering, is there a reason there are no pictures? If anything I'd expected it to be using first or a random album art from the playlist like it does on mobile and other pages on the web player seem to work in a similar fashion (if you plan on making an editable image selector, it would still be nice temporarily if not too much trouble. But I can understand leaving it out in that case if it would be a lot of work). It looks a bit odd now.

I made a small change to a couple of my SFTP clouds the other day on Astiga’s end, but I was in a hurry so I overlooked the empty password field. Immediately, both clouds stopped working and the website started displaying an error message saying that various .mp3 files could not be found. (This error message has a way of covering up buttons, by the way.) Since most of my music was stored there, I wondered for a few days if the service has gone down or if my (admittedly hacky) setup had broken somehow. Only upon happening to visit the configuration pages again did I happen to notice the password field. Sure enough, saving it again with the right password fixed the problem.

It would be nice if there was some sort of “are you sure?” message that appears when a formally password secured cloud is edited to remove the password. :)

Song tagging and playlists based on tags

It's been a long time dream of me to be able to quickly generate playlists based on some made up tags I manually assigned to the songs, for example, happy songs, or songs sung in french, or whatever, and importantly, a song would be able to hold multiple tags.

I know I can hack similar behaviour by overwriting the genre of the songs, but I don't want to lose the genre, artist, album info and even so, that would not allow a song to have multiple tags.

I'm also aware that simulating this in the current interface is quite possible, I'd just have to create a playlist of all happy songs, and another of all french songs, and each time I'd sync new songs I'd also add them to the corresponding playlists. But this is quite cumbersome process, and the playlist editting in the web app is not quick enough (open playlist, add songs to it, save as same playlist, repeat), there's no context menu or other quick way to say add this song to x,y, and z playlists. That's why it seems to me that supporting tags would be more elegant solution.

Apologies if this is a dumb request or if there's already a way to do it that I'm unaware of. I'm not sure how feasible it would be given that astiga needs to support so many different file extensions. Feel free to put the request in the freezer if it's too futuristic. :)

Desired feature:

My preferred way to listen to music has always been something like: browse to a genre, see an artist with music in that genre, then see albums released by that artist which fits the genre. Is it possible to implement this feature? If not, would at least it be possible to sort albums by album artist instead of album title in genre view?

Thank you!

It would be really useful to me to have a feature in which every track I play gets recorded (optionally, if some users don't want it) and I can then look it up later. For example, sometimes I'm playing through a really long playlist or album and I take a break to play something else and I lose my place inside it. Once this is built, it could also support other features like "play insights" e.g. what genres you listed to the most, the most listened to song, etc. This "play insights" feature is far less important to me but might be cool.

Is it possible have a favorite button under Library? It is similar to CloubBeats IOS app. As we browse thru our songs tenth of thousands, it would be great if we can have an option to tag that particular song to be favorite and it will be under the playlist "Favorite". Thank you for your time and effort with this request.

Would it be possible to get astiga to read and respect the browser theme? I have automated my system to respect light and dark themes based on the time of day and this would be one more place where it would be awesome to use the built-in dark theme rather than force my own with dark reader.

Currently Astiga browser interface as an Overview tab that contains a dozen Most Played, Recently Played, and Recently Added albums. Being able to select each of these section headers to get a more exhaustive list of most/recently played albums would be useful.

Parity with GPM would be 100 albums shown for a given selected category. If loading that many album tiles simultaneously would be an issue half that would be still be solid.

Primarily web, but really both web and mobile***

I've almost saved over the wrong playlist a few times when building playlists on the web, and have accidentally modified and lost songs on mobile playlists when both building and using.

So I'd like to suggest a 'revision history' or 'previous versions' function for playlists. As I've also suggested a playlist 'lock' previously, I think somewhere in the UI for playlists ther could be a dropdown giving the ability to choose between 'listen' mode (listen to playlist, but no editing), 'Edit' Mode, and 'History' mode (which would allow the user to change the playlist to previously saved versions of that playlist, but still be able to switch back or to others... maybe 3 to 5 per playlist?).

Also to automate it, if Astiga could periodically check for changes in playlists (perhaps every 24 hours, every month, every X times the playlist is opened or something like that) and provide a little indicator/icons to show if (since the previous version) songs have been added, deleted, and/ or reordered (relative to songs that were present in the pervious version) it could run extremely smoothly. I hope this may be a useful idea. Thanks for always improving Astiga!

Separated thread.

Astiga web shows cover art next to track names and allows the user to navigate to a song's artist or parent album by clicking on the name. Having a 'go to artist' and/ or 'go to album' ability when a song is selected would be very useful and seeing the art is sometimes helpful when selecting specific songs or navigating a large playlist.

From here. https://community.asti.ga/discussion/414/some-requests-to-add-to-the-user-experience#latest

One common issue I run into is always having to rebuild playlists if I change a folder name, location, or any aspect of the filepath that a playlist uses to locate a song.

In another post I recently suggested having a dropdown for Multiple playlist modes; 'Listen,' 'Edit,' 'History,' and let's add 'Filepath' mode. Basically this would show the playlist's idea of the filepath for that song.

That way, if there is a missing file or folder along the way, this can be easily alerted or seen.

What would make this truly useful and powerful, though, would be to use the ability to select multiple songs to allow batch editing of things like folder names, inserting parent folders, etc. All selected songs that would be eligible for batch editing would hypothetically have to have all have the same parent folders and path (up to a certain point) which could possibly be managed; also any songs that are selected together and have the same directory should be able to easily be relocated. So I hope this could be a useful addition to astiga's many useful features.
