Enhanced meta data / various artists / album artists

Just wrapping my head around where we are now....

Album is Disco 5

Artists are different artists

Album Artist is Pet Shop Boys

It is not ticked as a compilation in the ID tags

The album ONLY shows under Various Artists. It does NOT show under Pet Shop Boys.

Therefore, are you now (did you before?) taking all multi-artist albums and making them Various Artists? No problem if you are, but just curious!!!

If you aren't - why do you think this is happening?

Addendum : I have tried rescanning the library but clearly is still isn't picking up the Album Artist as I see it in the library. I wonder why?

I'll take a look at this tomorrow... bank holiday here today. Hope that's ok.

Same here! I am loving the combo of Astiga with Nautiline. Game changer! 😀

I ended up removing the library and adding it back in. Just to see what happens. And then I suddenly realised there’s a feature in beta which is that you can enhance your library with other meta data brought in from outside and I suspect that might be what is happening because those two albums are listed as compilations on other platforms so I’ve switched that off and we’ll see what happens by tomorrow

Is this when viewing via Nautiline only, or via the Web too?

Artist information (related to album assignment) currently isn't enhanced with library enhancement enabled.

    on Astiga

I'm going mad. Which menu has access to switch on or off enhanced metadata? I can never EVER find it a second time! Ha!

    It's on your settings page:

Darn - the top right! Keep forgetting that one!

I think this might be a problem with the general sync code. I can see the ALBUM_ARTIST is "Pet Shop Boys" but we are assigning it "Various Artists", probably because all the tracks in the same folder have a different track artist. However, you're correct, an explicit ALBUM_ARTIST should overwrite that. I'll investigate some more.

    Question :

The album's Album Artist is Pet Shop Boys

The 'band' tag in Astiga is Various Artists and that is what Astiga is following - not the Album Artist.

What is the band tag? Is that one I haven't spotted elsewhere?

It is physically (!) in the Pet Shop Boys folder.

We currently don't use file/folder names for identification (although it is one heuristic for grouping albums) - only the tags.

I found the issue: for m4a files we simply don't look for album_artist as your files are tagged. I'll add this - it should be fixed from the next deployment (early next week).
